Since April 1, 1996, the Acadian Museum has been one of the seven sites of the Prince Edward Island Museum & Heritage Foundation, the provincial museum system, which plays an administrative role.  Thus, the Director of the Acadian Museum reports to the Executive Director of the Prince Edward Island Museum & Heritage Foundation.   According to this new agreement, the Association du Musée acadien incorporée is in charge of advising the Prince Edward Island Museum & Heritage Foundation on the operations of all sectors of the Acadian Museum & Centre for Acadian Research, particularly the collections, exhibits and programming.  The Association must also financially support the operations of the Acadian Museum. Furthermore, it has maintained proprietorship of the building, collections, equipment and trust fund.
